R.E.M.: Supernatural Superserious

Pitchfork Media ha colgado el primer single del nuevo album de la banda. R.E.M. Nation se ha hecho eco. Escucha Supernatural Superserious.

Mi opinión: Entiendo por qué lo escogen como el primer single. La música es amigable e incluso algo catchy, y la canción se dirige, líricamente, a los adolescentes, y en cuanto a letras es en cierta forma reminiscente a “Imitation of life” (por debajo, claro). El sonido es más sintético que el usual sonido de la banda -notar la mezcla de las guitarras- si vamos a compararlo con el R.E.M. antes que se fuera Berry (que es lo que todos están haciendo), pero la mezcla suena bastante bien. En general, es bonita, correcta y poco más; de una banda como R.E.M. deberíamos esperar más que esta blandura. Dicho todo esto: es la primera vez desde “New adventures in Hi-Fi” que me encuentro repitiendo como sonámbulo las armonías vocales que aporta Mike Mills. Según mi experiencia, esa es una de las mejores cosas que te puede pasar con una canción de estos tipos. Musicalmente: prometedora, hay una urgencia que no se escuchaba en las canciones de esta banda desde 1996. Mucho mejor que la versión en vivo, y que cualquier cosa en “Around the sun”.
